101 things in 1001 days
The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).
Start Date: March 17, 2008 (St Patrick’s Day)
End Date: December 13, 2010
The List
- Financial
- Donate $10/month/each to a different charity/cause in Grandma & Obai’s names. (to DA no more than 2 times per year per grandmother, aka $40 max per year)
- Don’t buy anything but necessities for a month (criteria: burnt out lightbulbs and other things that
matter in day to day life if not fixed, real food needed for a meal - no foods/liquids that have no
nutritional value). Split the money not spent 50/50 between Saving for Out of Country trip and ER fund - Monitor credit score and try to raise it 50 points. If accomplished by mid 2009, raise it another 50 pts.
- Get all caught up on tax filing and payment (federal & state).
- Identify & pay”little”/”old” debts.

Money Mgmt tasks:3/20/08- Analyze current spending plans and debt sheet to figure out when things will be paid off. Use this information to plan how to accelerate debt payoff to meet other goal on this list and also be able to afford the other things on this list. Also analyze costs of things on this list.
- Retirement Fund Management:
- Identify and check all previous retirement fund accounts.
- Consolidate if necessary.
- Contribute at least $500 more each year into account.
- Pick 10 prints of Amy Brown to keep. Sell the rest. Split proceeds between ER fund & the other financial goals.
- Start an address book (identify best method) and gather people’s contact info it. Input all their birthdays into Google Calendar with reminders set on each one.
- Send a birthday card via snail mail with a written note that tells them I appreciate them. Aim to get each one at least 2x in 1001 days or more. Must at least get them once in 1001 days.
- Be more socialable: talk to 25 new people via CL, OkCupid, etc.
- Organize photos, digital and old hardcopies.
- Write a letter to myself about who I am and what I think about and what is important to me these days. Seal it and open it only at the end of the 1001 days.
- Reconnect with Friends. Be on IM more and talk to friends like Ally and Mark and etc at least once a month. Visit Ruby & Dawne.
- Do a family portrait with Dad & Ryan
- Research returning to school.
- What would it take to complete the degree I started.
- How much is added if I changed majors.
- What is transferable.
- How hard is it to get back into college.
- What kind of online options are available and for how much of the coursework needed to complete a degree?
- Take an online college course, preferably one towards a degree, but one that explores changing major is ok too, ie psychology.
- Make a list of 20 childhood heros and role models. Write down the reasons why I liked them and in which ways I wanted to be like them. Then write about whether or not I am that person and think on how I can be more like them if I still want to be.
- Collect all old journal writings and letters (ie the ones written in DC that are saved to floppy somewhere?) and save them into Google Docs or post in LP under “pre-blog writings” tag.
- Keep a running ToDo list and every Monday look at it and figure out when they can be done and follow through with it. Shoot for at least 50% completion rate.
- Restore Leonine Ponderances:
Implement WPMU(already done prior to list start)Ensure that posts are crossposting to LJ(3/19/08)- Import all previous posts from old MT installation
- import missing years from LJ.
- Integrate variations and move all blogs & posts into it including ones mentioned below.
- Restore Doglions and post more to it.
- Work on dog rescue site. Specific goals/tasks to be defined later.
- Restart MsAmused.com and post at least 365 items to it (no more than 100 posts culled from stuff posted on LJ may count towards this number)
- Finish/Restore/Activate Finnish Rock
- Build out at least two ideas: “Learn Finnish”,”IronysBitch”,”UniqueSToys”,”QuoteRating”,”IggyGate”
- Finish updating Ravelry with all old projects that I can get pictures of and pictures of my stash. Take better pictures of everything if possible.
- Get back on the meds that I last took.
- Learn Yoga. Get to where I can do at least (insert appropriate amount of minutes) of Yoga a day for 2 weeks, then do it.
- Seek help for possible sleep apnea per Joe Rogan’s blog
- Get more physically active: roller skating (outdoors? rinks?), hiking? dog friendly hikes?
- Take dogs on walk in hills 10 times. Use carrier for Captain if he won’t keep the pace.
- Attend Burning Man at least one more time. If I go, MUST take pictures every day.
- Go to Long Beach via the Metro for the day
- Visit Hearst Castle
- Go To Hawaii but only if can be done for around $500 for flight & lodging.
- Go camping at least 5 times
- Travel out of the US, preferably off the continent. (simple cruises don’t count)
- Tenative Goal: Finland in Summer 2009
- Get Passport
- Build a travel fund without sacrificing debt repayment plan
- Go to Tijuana (try to go with Uncle Matthew?)
- Make a scrapbook of at least one trip.
- Visit something on Weird CA
- Learn Sign Language again (note: Ryan is taking it in Fall 08)
- Learn how use a gun and practice shooting 3 times.
- Find and take sewing lessons and learn the things like darts and etc that I don’t know.
- Find a Ballroom dancing class and go at least 5 times.
- Learn how to use makeup.
- Learn Flash
- Learn Finnish
- Learn how to alter “man” tshirts into fitted flattering shirts.
- Learn fire spinning (just have to find the practice poi)
- Replace carpet in bedroom
- Organize music:
- Get music organized in iTunes and consolidated onto one drive
- Backup music
- Get speakers set up in the house. (I always clean best to music and
this might help me do this more often if it was easy to just hit the button and go) - Make 10 new Car Mix cds. (3 made 3/16/08)
- Replace carpet in rest of apt.
- Come up with system for storing active craft projects (yarn stuff) and implement it.
- Computer Upgrade Stuff
- Upgrade laptop memory.
- Evaluate old computers and upgrade if costs are minimal. What’s the maximum memory supported by their motherboards and is it available cheap?
- Rebuild Ryan’s old desktop and give it back to him.
- Try again to resurrect my old tower.
- Look for cheap way to replace CRT monitors with LCD ones for better space mgmt.
- Gather all paperwork, finish purging old stuff, file remaining papers
- Ditch all the Downey books. Ditch magazines. Ditch movie poster collection (may keep 1o).
- Sew Kimi’s star sheets into dog blankets like she asked
- Replace cell phone with iPhone
- Write a book and/or participate in NaNoWriMo (dog rescue?)
- Write a series of blog posts about life as a deaf person. One per month. Take blog posts and turn it into a memoir a la Wil? Interview family and write about their memories.
- Get Oven & Keys replaced
- Get maintenance done on the car (the beyond oil change stuff)
- Get the glove compartment fixed
- Thoroughly clean out the car. Vacuum and scrub all surfaces til as new as possible.
- Research options to find a dog walker for the dogs to get at least a half hour walk 2 times a week.
- Dog Training Goals: Get Captain to stop spazzing on the leash. Find service dog training dvds/books and teach myself to train them.
- Dog Health:
- Take each dog for checkup.
- Take each dog for teeth cleaning, once per year.
- Shots were given in 2007. Do it again in 2010 (approx April).
- Find and put together all their paperwork.
- Maintain rabies vaccination. Remember that Captain has bad reactions.
- Finish framing Ryan’s lion art for me and hang it.
- Adopt soldiers from AnySoldier.com and send a packages for every copy of HTFS I have (put one in each package).
- Go through my “stuff”. If it costs under $25 to replace, is merely decorative or something to “look at”, and/or is something I will not use in the next year or two. Put it in the Goodwill bag. Stifle “but I should try to sell it thoughts” by either listing it right then and there or within a couple days. If it’s not sold by the time it goes to Goodwill. It’s gone. Also resolve to take stuff to Goodwill/OutofCloset at least once a month if there’s anything to take.
- Buy a crockpot and make at least 5 new recipes (standard corned beef does not count)
- For a week, buy stuff and make salads like those I ate in early 2006. Try to go through the weekend too. Do this at least 5 times though it does not have to be consecutive weeks.
- Stay awake and out of the house for a full 24 hours once a year. Take lots of photos. (taken from
101ofawolf, sounds interesting) - Ride in a helicopter
- leave 100 post-it notes in random places with favorite quotes on them.
- Try 10 new local restaurants (Go to drag night at Hamburger Mary’s, Medieval Times)
- Rediscover old & new “sports” by doing the following at least once:
- paintball
- batting cage
- a kayak class
- rock wall climb
- ride a bull thing
- geocache
- skydiving and /or hang gliding
- indoor skydiving
- ride a motorcycle (on Jen Mac’s blog: “If you don’t know how, sign up for a motorcycle safety course. cost about $100, and they supply the bike and helmet. Just wear boots, long sleeves and gloves. Its a blast. no previous riding experience needed. only need to know how to ride a bicycle. It may last two days, but even if you only do it for one day, its still worth it to have several hours of riding around on a motorcycle.ours was held at a local comunity college. you can find out about it at your local DMV website.”)
- See at least 5 of these shows (Can add to the list but has to be a show that I’d REALLY want to see and
have been putting off for a while. No concerts. One show must be a permanent Cirque show.)

- Participate in Postcrossing, goal: 50 postcards. (6/50)
- Knit a garment for myself.
- Make 5 more sets of dog scarves and have them wear them.
- Work with Nicole on finishing the Tour Book for TR. (If she doesn’t feel up to it, try to do it myself or replace this goal)
- Find the recipe for Pistachio Cake and make it. Make Spaghetti Pie too.
- Go on three wildflower hikes.
- Do 100words for myself.
- Get a half barrel and plant a rose in it. Try to enlist the building into the project.
- Rejoin the SD Zoological society and try to go at least twice a year.
- Join LA Zoo society for a year and go once a month as a walking thing. (membership $45, family is $75)
- Read Neil Gaiman books, esp Sandman
- Re-read the Oz books by Baum, include as many of the other books written by Ruth and other authors as I can find.
- Read 10 biographies, at least 2 of which are about people not well known.
- Read 5 motivational/help books and try to follow religiously for 3 weeks each.

- Watch 10 musicals (start with the Rodgers & Hammerstein box set I’ve never watched) and go to two live perfomance Musicals (MUST SEE LION KING if it comes back to LA again)
