speedy Jayne Cobb

Anyone who loves Firefly is familiar with the monstrosity of a hat that Jayne’s mudder knitted for him. It’s become a thing to knit/have as a badge of “fandom” and also because it’s just plain fun.

Yesterday I finally went to the Michaels with my store credit and picked up yellow & orange yarn for the hat. As well as more microspun for headbands and feltable wool yarn for the hedgehogs.

Got home late last night but really wanted to cast on something instead of being diligent and finishing something else. So I casted on for Jayne.

I do not consider myself a fast knitter. I knit English and not continental so am slower anyways but I don’t seem to knit even as fast as a lot of other english style knitters. So I was astounded to realize that after an ep of Bones and Dancing With the Stars, I was within 2 very short rows of being done with the main body of the hat! And that’s with plenty of interruptions at that.

It’s a very loose knit design which is why it was so fast. But not so loose that it’s useless. I tried it on and it felt like a nice soft blankie for my head. I could feel it there but it doesn’t grip in a vise which is a nice alternative to the tighter beanies.
