At least not these days, since my first serious relationship was with a man named Emmett. The relationship wasn’t a good one for us but over time I got over my anger about it and now we’re friendly to each other and talk every so often mainly because we knew each other really well and sometimes it’s helpful to get the other person’s feedback about yourself from a POV based on your younger self.

There is also Ebay which has been both good and dangerous to me. But the last time I got myself into trouble was probably 2003. I’ve learned to curtail my compulsive habits. Now it’s either an informational resource or a place to find certain specific items for cheap. Earlier this year I sold off a small fraction of my magazine collection. It was a lot of work and only half of them sold. Right now I’m selling off a couple hundred cookbooks organized by type. 20 auction lots and at least 3 are selling for $11 total. I structured the prices and etc so that I’d make at least a dollar if it went for opening bid. It’s coming up on the final day so hopefully there will be more exposure and the “watchers” will finally bid. It only cost $2 in listing fees but was a whole evening’s work. Yesterday I bought a usb cable for Kimi’s camera for $5.55 shipped. It was easier to do that so that I can access the memory on her camera myself without her having to find her cord. But if I’d gone through normal channels? $25-$30! I just wish it was that cheap to replace the missing cord for my Maxtor external drive.

Before I thought of the above two, I was grasping at straws and hit upon Edward Scissorhands, Johnny Depp’s 2nd feature movie and the first of many with Tim Burton. Recently I was discussing how Johnny Depp achieved something really special in that he made a star career out of oddball, quirky roles in extraordinary movies. Before him, it was kind of the kiss of death for an actor to take a role like that as it was usually hated. It’s a little dated now but it’s still very good.

And there’s also Elvira! How could I forget about her? I’m still grateful that I went to Knott’s Scary Farm Halloween Haunt in 2001 which was her final year performing there. I also went to a screening of her 2nd movie in Pasadena that she made an appearance at. I’d gone back out to the lobby for something right before it started and almost tripped over Elvira herself. She was very tiny even with the heels on.

Sadly, the 2nd movie was too campy even for me or at least I couldn’t follow enough of it to enjoy it. And I haven’t wanted to try renting it to see if it’d be any better with captions.
